The dark horse standing on the road brings to my mind many thoughts. I think about the modern landscape of the automobile and how the horse appears shadowed as a ghost wandering alone like a lost remnant of an earlier time. It makes me fear all of nature’s creations will disappear as we continue to excavate and build and partition this planet into a world entirely for ourselves. A world in which our technological prowess might one day render nature itself as obsolete as a horse on a road.
Yet this horse isn’t bridled. It looks to be wandering free. And so I think perhaps it’s not lost and not tame but wild. A dark horse stepping unexpectedly onto my path for just a moment before disappearing back into the shadows. Like a guiding apparition inviting me to leave the emptiness of the road. To slip past the fences into the shadows of a world where the path is unbeaten and mysteries abound. Where I too can wander with the spirit of the dark horse, both wild and free.
