I’ve long appreciated seeing the world through the lens of photography. Telling stories in moments of time captured through light and composition. But times are changing. Digital and generative AI technologies dispense with the need for a camera to produce images imbued with photographic realism. Some see this as a tragedy or a cheat. I see it as building upon previous traditions to create new possibilities for image making and storytelling relevant to our current moment. We’re in a period of rising economic disparity, information hyper-saturation, political upheaval, rapidly advancing artificial intelligence and budding trans-humanism. These are concerns I explore in works combining my written text with images I construct using digital and generative AI tools. My goal being to address this time of disruption in storytelling seen through a new lens yet still rooted in the essential humanism of personal reflection.
